CCS Education Reform Recruitment
I know I just sent out an email 3 days ago but this was so cool and exciting that we couldn’t wait to let y’all know about this: We have a really special opportunity coming up within the CCS Education Reform Project, organised by Cambridge Climate Society (CCS) and Cambridge Zero!
Apply here by next Friday 1st November.
This is different from our recruitment for the overall CCS Education Team.
📖 Brief Summary
Although we are working with four main departments, there will be departments where we aim for interdisciplinary working groups - meaning that you can join from across disciplines and years, from Freshers to Postgrads. The four main departments are: Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geography, and Materials Science and Metallurgy! The teams reflecting on the curriculum and education will mostly contain students from these departments. The departments seemed very excited and keen about carrying out the project. If you would like to work with fellow students on a reflection regarding sustainability in the UG course, please complete this application form (this is the same as the link above).
ℹ️ More Details
The project this year is building on the momentum of last year's ERP, which looked at integrating more climate-related content into undergraduate curriculum across seven different courses. The project aims to encourage discussions between department staff and students about:
What their ideas and expectations are when it comes to a changing world and the purpose of transforming unsustainable lifestyles and practices into more sustainable ones
What departments could do in order to incorporate and highlight sustainability-related content more effectively
What students’ perceptions are about advancing sustainability competencies.
In the ERP, we will ask you to participate in regular discussions with fellow students in your working group to discuss your concerns and recommendations regarding a chosen course/paper. This means that we would also ask you to work on your own, read some of the available educational materials (handouts, readings, presentations), or, in some cases, think about your own experiences. To help you think about the paper more broadly, you will receive a set of questions to guide your inquiry.
Further, we would ask you to come to our Sustainability Capacity Building Workshop, which will enable you to gain a holistic understanding of sustainability and ground. The workshop will be held on November 3rd at Christ’s College, but do not hesitate to apply if you won't be able to make it.
We are looking for creative people of all ages and disciplines who are interested in sustainability and looking for places to implement ideas and solutions. No prior knowledge/experience about sustainable education is required.
Expected time commitment: The expected workload for this role is 1-2 hours per week, including meetings with other team members.
