📅 Upcoming Events
Homerton Politics in conversation with Sarah Lunnon - Today (Tuesday 21st) 5:15pm @ Fellow’s Auditorium, Homerton College
We are kicking off this year’s speakers events with a high-profile climate activist. Sarah Lunnon has a background as a Green Party councillor and has been a coordinator and representative of Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain. Lunnon is also the co-founder of Just Stop Oil. She is a powerful speaker, having interviewed on the BBC, This Morning, LBC and Sky News. Lunnon’s message that the urgency of the climate crisis necessitates what many would consider radical and extreme methods of civil disobedience has provoked much discussion.
This evening is a joint event with Homerton Changemakers, which will commence at the Griffin Bar at 5.15pm before moving to the Fellow’s Auditorium at 5.30pm for the Q&A session.
The topic question for the evening will be: What are the limits of civil protest? We look forward to diving into discussion on various interconnected topics including, but not limited to:
the current state of the climate crisis;
structural and systemic barriers to protest within the UK in light of recent court cases and legal changes;
the question of the efficiency of civil disobedience with regards to climate action.
Anyone is welcome, all degrees and colleges. We look forward to seeing you there!
